As we enter May, the dynamics of the Global Enduring Disorder, like the conflict in Ukraine, appear increasingly entrenched and protracted. The relative stalemate in the War in the Donbas, the refusal of India and China to impose sanctions on Russia, the narrow loss of neo-populist Marie Le Pen in France’s election, and Australia’s anger over China’s secretive security pact with the Solomon Islands, all seem to be leading to a sense that more of the same is the order of the day. Despite much media speculation that May 9th will be accompanied by a bold Russian announcement or military action that will transform global affairs, it is difficult to imagine this will play out. The Global Enduring Disorder is bedding down.
